Vmware vixgns3 vm1/15/2024 I set up a VM hoping to be able to run some apps on the guest and be able to access them from anywhere within my network. I think there's an option to have the EFI ROM (reported as BIOS) to be modified here:īut I really hope this can be modified through vmx parameters rather than modifying the ROM. My main focus by now is on the BIOS and mainboard.Ĭontinuum had a look to your great guide and some of the mentioned vmx parameters aren't mentioned: perhaps you may want to add them ) being the expert on the topic: any other that good exist to fix the parts highlighted in yellow? On ESXi it's even worse because many of those parameters don't seem to work but we'll come back to that later. These parameters though are not completely doing the job below a table extracted using HWinfo of what matches and what doesn't (physical machine on the right, VM on the left): Vms parameters I've found after some days of research (mostly taken from discussion on making MacOS run on a PC): Have an ESXi host but I started with wks player as it seems easier to inherit some properties from the host. Changing to a regular dash (and a capital 'T') fixed the problem, so now I can launch my VM in the player from the command line: VM="/opt/vmware/Ubuntu_Node/Ubuntu 64-bit.I want to have a VM that is as close as possible to the physical host I want to virtualize. I got this same error when I used a lower case 't' instead of 'T', so I think this error message is from vmrun not getting the 'player' option. This caused the error where it complained it could not find workstation: Error: Service type VIX_SERVICEPROVIDER_VMWARE_WORKSTATION was specified, but not installed I had copied it from this web page and it was using a long dash character instead of a regular dash: Like myself, you may want to start this vm automatically when ubuntu boots (which it should do fine, and that is my next step also)Ĭheck the dash before the 'T' option in the vmrun command.I was unable still to vmrun via ssh login from another computer.so you may now start it at the command line with vmrun note It has also reinstalled VIX as part of workstation, and VIX has this time correctly picked up vmplayer. Surprisingly, what you will find is that you now have both player AND workstation installed, even though if you try installing workstation while player is already installed, the installer will tell you that it cannot do it. Install vmware workstation: same process as player (remember to chmod +x the bundle).Uninstall vmware-vix: vmware-installer -u vmware-vix.Uninstall vmware player: vmware-installer -u vmware-player.it is checking & finding vmware workstation NOT player (even if the config file has the correct version of player listed), and then complaining that workstation is not installed. I am not sure why, but even when you use the command as follows: /usr/lib/vmare/vixwrapper-product-config.txt.Vmrun command is ignoring its own config file: in case anyone else encounters this issue, here is the solution:.So is this indication that it thinks I have installed workstation instead of player? Service type VIX_SERVICEPROVIDER_VMWARE_WORKSTATION was specified, but not installed. $ vmrun start /path/vm.vmx (without the -T and "player" host type specification) when I try to run the command instead as just:.so if it is not the wrong version in that config file. but when I open the player, it seems that I do already have v6.0.0 (according to the "help > about" menu item in the player GUI. to add / modify the line (to ensure it has your correct version of VM player).others with the same issue claimed the solution was to edit a file.and when I try to run the command in the format:Įrror: The specified version was not found.* Forum proposed solution: I have checked in the online resources of the product documentation, and in discussion groups where other people experience the same issue.
